RESTART CBD is excited to announce THCV! With so many different cannabinoids popping up in the cannabis industry, it can be difficult to know which ones to choose from. In the past, we’ve focused on CBD, CBG and CBN, three cannabinoids that have been known to help with an array of issues. Thanks to our dedicated team of experts, we are now going to be carrying one of the newer, and more exciting cannabinoids, THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin).
What is THCV and what exactly does it do?
THCV is a cannabinoid that was first discovered in the early 1970s and is relatively common in cannabis plants. However, it’s just now making its way into the mainstream and we’re excited to be able to supply our customers with one of the most exciting cannabinoids available.
Like CBD and THC, this cannabinoid is initially produced by the cannabis plant in its precursor acidic form of tetrahydrocannabivarin acid (THCVA). Cannabigerovarinic acid (CBGV), a central precursor, converts to THCVA, which itself eventually converts into THCV when exposed to heat, or light.
Known as the “weight management” cannabinoid, THCV is actually a well-studied appetite suppressant. Other research, such as this study by the Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, suggests that THCV may be an effective weight-loss compound because it improves connectivity in the areas of the brain that are generally altered in people with obesity. It’s important to note that research supports THCV’s weight-loss qualities only when it is ingested at low doses. At doses high enough to get the person “high”, THCV does not act the same way. In fact, at high doses, THCV may actually increase appetite.
THCV is only psychoactive in extremely high doses. This is the only similarity between THCV and THC. As mentioned above, unlike THC that is said to give users the munchies, THCV acts as an appetite suppressant. Interestingly, studies have shown that THCV can actually counteract some of THC’s effects. Another key benefit to THCV is the fact that it kicks in fast but also dissipates fast, which is a major benefit to those who don’t want to feel the effects of cannabis for too long.
