CBD Guideline Chart

We cannot make dosage recommendations. However, many people who are new to CBD start with a lower amount and gradually work their way up to a dosage that’s right for them.  Some people have used these guidelines to help them better understand how CBD might work for them.

Don’t overdo it when you begin using CBD. Work your way up to higher doses until you know how your body responds, overdoing it can cause fatigue.

It’s wise to begin with no more than 10 mg CBD per day until your body acclimates, and increase from there.  Many people find that 5mg is a good starting point.

For faster relief, some ingestion methods work faster than others. The one that works best for you may differ depending on your circumstances.

Dosing methods: CBD Oil can be taken:

  • Sublingually, added to food and drinks and rubbed directly on your skin.
  • Concentrates and vape oil are either used with a pin or smoked through a vape pen.
  • Edibles eaten and topicals applied directly to the skin.

Always start at the lowest amount, then add .05 – 5 mg every fourth day and stop increasing when the desired result is achieved. 

Experiment as you will. Everyone reacts to CBD differently.

Some people find that half of these doses provide what they need to feel balanced, some need more. It will take time to figure out what is right for you.

Not all CBD is created equal.   Our post  “Will CBD Work for You?”  offers some important reading because CBD is NOT a miracle cure or 100% effective for everyone; nothing is.  CBD oil might NOT work for you.   Brand, dosage, genetics, your biology, biochemistry, lifestyle, physical health, psychological health, tolerance, strains and entourage effect ALL play an important role.  So, one “recommended dose” or “suggested serving” certainly does not fit all.

NOTE: It’s always best to start with a lower strength (5-10mg) and work your way up.

CBD Dosing with Edibles

Edibles are typically available in 10 – 25 mg. servings so it’s easy to determine how much  CBD you’re getting in any one dose.

If you’re 150 pounds and under we recommend beginning with 10 mg., see how you feel after 90 minutes and then take another 10 mg. if you haven’t achieved the relief or state of mind you’re looking for.  If you weigh more check the chart below.

With edibles, due to lower absorption rates from ingestion, higher mg are usually required vs. taking CBD oil sublingually under your tongue or vaping it.

Guidelines Only:

  1. under 50 pounds: up to 10mg CBD
  2. 51-100 pounds: 10-20mg CBD
  3. 151-200 pounds: 15-30mg CBD
  4. over 200 pounds: 20-50mg CBD

Vaping with CBD

Vaping is a fast way to get relief and in fact, one of the easiest. When you need something quick, take out your vape pen, suck it in, and feel better in minutes. The vapor enters your bloodstream through your lungs, so the effects are immediate.

As with oral CBD, don’t overdo it when you begin vaping. Using the charts below, work your way up to higher doses until you know how your body responds.  Remember, overdoing it can cause fatigue.

It’s wise to begin with no more than 10 mg. per day until your body acclimates, then titrate up from there.  With vaping you might  notice more overall focus and a feeling of well-being. These guidelines are the amount to begin with PER DAY, not per vape. Work your way up from there.

Determining Dose

First look at the bottle size of your vape juice in millimeters (mL), then at the milligram (mg) of CBD. For example:

  • A 15 mL bottle of vape oil that has 150 mg of CBD equals 10mg of CBD per 1 mL dropper.  If you fill your tank or pen with a bit less than a 1/2 of a dropper of 10mg per dropper, and vape that throughout the day it’s about 5 mg of CBD.
  • A 15mL bottle of vape oil that has 250mg of CBD equals 16.66mg of CBD per 1mL dropper.
  • A 5mL bottle of vape oil that has 500mg of CBD equals 100mg CBD per 1mL dropper. If you fill your tank or pen with a bit less than a 1/2 of a dropper of 100mg per dropper, and vape that throughout the day it’s about 50 mg of CBD.
